Photography workshops for members and non-members are held from October to April on the second Monday of the month. Photographers of all abilities including absolute beginners are very welcome as are those who came to our similar sessions last season. Bringing along your camera is essential as every evening will contain practical exercises. There is a small charge of £3 per person for each session and this includes tea and coffee during the interval


MONDAY CLUB PROGRAMME FOR 2011 - 2012

This season will be presented differently so that not only will it be suitable for beginners, it will also help to develop those skills which were learnt last year. The emphasis will be on improving competences to enable you to create interesting, challenging and rewarding images. Participation is expected, witheveryone taking images, editing them and subjecting them to constructive scrutiny. There will be challenging exercises to enable you to practice the tasks of the evening. Help will be given, where possible, to produce quality images and prints. The sessions are interactive so we would like to see your images, the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Please also let us know what you wish to learn so we can tailor the evenings to meet your needs and wishes.

Aperture, shutter, ISO: How they are related

We will cover the basic use of the camera, aim to understand the relationship between the main controls and the picture we intend to take. We will also cover the importance of composition, and discover the reasons why thoughtful composition is essential to produce a good picture.

Practical: Taking pictures which show the compositional rules explained.

Understanding the use of aperture for controlling available light: how aperture affects the depth of field. The difference between natural light and artificial light. Using white balance to control these differences. How can we can adjust photos in Photoshop or Elements.

Practical: Taking photos with varying depth of field and using artificial light. Working with a tripod.

How to photograph moving objects or people. How do we make the fast appear fast, the slow appear fast and the fast appear slow. Looking at auto-focus (AF) and how to photo animals and sports.

Practicals: include panning, timing, and freezing using flash.

End of term session. We shall try to answer some of the difficulties you have come up against. You will be asked to bring in two or three pictures you have taken during the season for a friendly competition. We will provide a judge who will select the top 3 pictures. You will also have the opportunity to tell us what you think about the Monday Club and how it could be improved for future seasons.
